Those preliminary results suggest that the accelerometric method is not suitable to measure LHSD and compare track surfaces at the canter since it can lead to contradictory conclusions when compared to the kinematic method, considered here as a gold standard. As it remains very simple to use and implement in outdoor experiments, the use of an accelerometer-based method at the canter should be further investigated using more horses. A comprehensive analysis of both accelerometric and kinematic data should be undertaken to better explain the differences observed between the two methods, and define precise conditions of use of the accelerometric method (e.g. gait and speed conditions, as well as surface characteristics).
