IMEC expands research facilities

Belgian nanoelectronics research institute IMEC has begun the expansion of its research labs with a 2,800m2 extension of a state-of-the-art cleanroom at its Leuven campus. IMEC also plans to build a new office building starting later this year.rnThe 2,800m2 extra lab space includes 1,200m2 ultra-clean processing area as an extension of its current 300mm cleanroom and will be 450mm-ready.rnAlso about 1,600m~2 of new lab space will be used to extend its research both on silicon and organic solar cells and on biomedical electronics.rnToday, IMEC employs about 1650 people, and with this extension it expects to create about 300 extra jobs over the coming years, including researchers and operators and lab assistants in several domains.
