Our survey of small firms reveals that companies with 50 or fewer employees have seen strong growth in the past year and anticipate continuing increases in the months ahead. Over the course of the past several months, Civil Engineering has conducted a survey of small-firm employees and owners. Our goal was to establish some baseline definitions of small-firms employees—what areas they specialize in, how long they've been employed by their firm, what challenges they face, and what factors will help lead them to continued prosperity. While not intended as a statistically significant survey, the poll, which was answered by 77 respondents, does offer insight into the challenges and rewards of being involved in a smaller engineering company.
