Set along the rochdale canal, this lightheaded but sometimes darker story of single mother Jo contrasts the worlds of present day Hebden Bridge and Fairfield a quarter century ago. But life is just as complicated among the organic 'earth mothers' of the middle-class canalside town as it was in working class north Manchester during the rising unemployment of the Winter of Discontent -rnand the same canal links the two together.
