Subtitled The Story of a Canal Community, this booklet tells the story of the settlement which built up around the junction of the Birmingham & Liverpool Junction Canal (now part of the Shropshire Union Main Line) and the canal's Newport Arm (now disused) from the 1835 opening of the canal onwards. Chapters cover early inhabitants | (some of them former navvies who had built the canal), the development of a canal maintenance depot and stables, the pub, the working boatmen and cargo-carrying boats which lasted into the 1960s, and the horse-drawn boat trips which carried traditions on for another two decades.
