Measures Of Health And Production In Preweaned Kids In Pastoralherds In Northern Kenya

The overall mean daily weight gain (MDWG) at 240 days of age was 52.9±0.3gd~(-1) where growth of healthy kids was significantly (p<0.05) higher (58.3±10gd~(-1)) than that of the unhealthy ones (51.8±1.8gd~(-1)). Health status and sub location were associated with MDGW. There was an interaction term on sub location and season and also health and season. Results on performance showed that high crude morbidity and mortality rates compromised the weight gains.
