At the outset, I have a confession to make: I've never formally used the FAA's risk-management tools-the pre-flight planning tool "PAVE" and the "IM SAFE" checklist-or studied the aeronautical decision-making process the agency stresses. On one hand, I "came up" through the ranks of GA pilots long before these tools became available. On another hand, I've kinda/sorta been implementing them on my own since shortly after I soloed.
