BMW finds the Formula

A top challenge for aspiring open-wheel road racers is choosing the right racing series to advance their career. A proliferation of open-wheel categories has splintered whatever order their once was for young drivers to follow from the bottom to the top. BMW hopes that introducing yet another new series will help clarify the process rather than muddle it. The Formula BMW (FBMW) is not only a spec racing car; it is also a set of series worldwide that will let profession team managers evaluate youngsters in exactly the same equipment whether they race in Germany, Britain, the U.S., or Asia. The series began in Germany in 2002, spread to Asia in 2003, and launches in the U.S. and UK in 2004. Designed as a kart racer's first step into car racing, the FBMW curriculum includes fitness and nutrition training, instruction on vehicle dynamics and suspension setup, driving techniques, and public relations.
