This Plenary Event investigated the new technologies that are needed to support future expansion in four major space applications areas: Telecommunications, Earth Observation, Meteorology and Navigation. The panel included world recognized leaders in each area to outline their technological needs, and senior executives of Space Agencies, tasked with the R&D of such technologies, explained what they are in the process of developing and how well this fits with the expressed needs of the other panellists. Each of the panellists, representing specific application areas, made a short presentation addressing three key questions: 1. What are the new technologies, in space or on the ground, that you will need five or ten years from now in your area? 2. How will these new technologies enable new and/or better services to be provided to your "customers" in the future? 3. What steps are being taken to ensure that the requisite technology will be available when you need it? Space Agency executives then outlined what relevant R&D their agency is conducting and commented on how this addresses the needs expressed by the first speakers.
