Recently, I found myself at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) Library at Haymarket surrounded by some very heavy and distinctly pungent past issues of Architectural Design (AD) and L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui. This was only days before many of the architecture journals were whisked off the shelves to be stored in the new underground and robotic Library Retrieval System (LRS). While I had a specific article to locate, I couldn't help but read a number of the AD issues from 1968 to 1970. Pouring over the Cedric Price supplements, the contributions by other architects such as Andrew Rabeneck, Nicholas Negroponte, and by cybernetician Gordon Pask, I was reminded of the wide applications envisioned for emerging technologies that extended beyond modes of 'assisted' design. Moreover, I was struck by how relevant many of the ideas and discussions still remain today.
