Founded in 1946 after World War Ⅱ, Texas Nameplate Company (TNC) is a second-generation, family-owned Dallas business that manufactures nameplates and employs 60 people. In 1998, Texas Nameplate became the smallest company in history to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, given by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. TNC is both a manufacturing and printing company. Its employees use screen printing, photo engraving, and chemical etching to make identification plates with information such as serial numbers, model numbers, pressure limits, vendor names, installation procedures, and safety warnings. The technology was developed during World War Ⅱ and remains in demand among manufacturers of computers, aircraft, trucks, appliances, pressure gauges, and oil field equipment.
