Peter J. Bowler, a professor of the history of science atnthe Queen’s University, Belfast, is the author of severalnclassic works on the history of biology (particularly evolu-ntionary theory), including the renowned Evolution: ThenHistory of an Idea. Bowler’s most recent book, MonkeynTrials and Gorilla Sermons: Evolution and Christianitynfrom Darwin to Intelligent Design, maintains the highnstandards of academic excellence established in thisnauthor’s previous works. The book, as the title suggests,nprovides a historical analysis of the complex relationshipnbetween Christianity and evolutionary theory, focusingnmainly on the English-speaking countries. The same andnsimilar topics were explored in a more detailed and techni-ncal manner in Bowler’s 2001 book, Reconciling Science andnReligion: The Debates in Early Twentieth-Century Britain.
