New Gecamines boss pledges to pay salary arrears to steady ship

Finally installed in post as the new managing director of Gécamines on 26 June a year on from his appointment (Africa Intelligence, 02/07/19), Sama Lukonde Kyenge has immediately moved to placate employees of the publicly owned mining company by pledging to pay one month of salary arrears. This represents a minor victory for the workforce since the company is a habitual late payer of salaries and arrears have been building up since February.
