Designed and built as a civilian airliner, the Fw 200 Condor made a big impression when it flew non-stop from Berlin to New York in August 1938. The first prototype, D-AERE, flew on September 6,1937 and, with the second, D-AETA, was presented at Berlin's Tempelhof Airport on November 27. Early problems were ironed out and Lufthansa ordered six, while Danish rnairline DDL ordered two.
