Preliminary studies on the synthesis of alpha2-macroglobulin by human lymphocytes in vitro

Immunoprecipitation studies with antisera to alpha2-macroglobulin (α2M) were undertaken on the supernatants and extracts of human peripheral blood lymphocytes cultured in serum free medium containing [¹⁴C]glutamine. These studies revealed that an appreciable amount of the [¹⁴C]glutamine was recovered in the α2M precipitate, suggesting that this protein was synthesized by lymphocytes.
