On the Translation of Culturally-loaded Terms in The Last Emperor—from the Perspective of Susan Bassnett's Theory

Film translation plays an essential role in cultural exchange.Telling a Chinese story,The Last Emperor is a film made by western crews and its dialogues were written in English.The translation of the film reflects the clashes between Chinese and Western cultures.As a prestigious theory of translation,Susan Bassnett’s cultural translation theory is widely used to analyze and evaluate translations of various works.This essay categorizes the translation methods applied and uses Bassnett’s cultural translation theory as its theoretical basis,analyzing and evaluating the translation of the culturally-loaded terms in the translation of The Last Emperor.
