Register Theory and Its Application in English Teaching

     

摘要

Register is a variety of language in use in different social situations and for different purposes. It is an essential compo-nent of communication in real life. This paper, based on Halliday's register theory and actual analysis of the registers of several re-al texts, argues that the application of register theory to the English language teaching will not only develop students'all-round lan-guage skills but also improve their ability to use English effectively and appropriately.
