介绍了1910—1930年代上海公共租界先施、永安、新新、大新四大百货公司的兴建背景和建筑特征,分析了百货公司作为一种从西方引入的建筑类型在近代上海的移植和转变过程,指出它们既是业主与建筑师合作的成果,更是民族资本的发展、先进技术的引入、商品博览的日常化、娱乐生活的集聚以及商业空间的竞夺等时代因素共同作用的产物,从而揭示百货大厦作为消费主义纪念碑和摩登生活诱惑场所的都市现代性特征.%The four department stores, The Sincere Co. LtD., The Wing On Co. LtD., The Sun Sun Co. LtD., and The Sun Co. LtD., built in the International Settlement of Shanghai from the 1910s to 1930s were of a new building type originated from the western countries. This paper describes how it was transformed and transplanted into Shanghai at that time, resulting from the increasing development of the national capitalism, the use of new building technology, the fertility of the commodity, the growth of the entertainment and the commercial competitions. The buildings had been designed, represented and experienced as the city's new monuments and seductive places of consumerism, from which urban modernity can be revealed and understood.
