In Ameri-ca,the predominant white culture penetrates into the black culture,which makes the black ignore their history and ancestor gradually. Faced with the danger of the black’s assimilation,Morrison dedicated herself to restore the black culture. She believed the development of the black must depend on every one of their own people. The milkman’s self-seeking is analyzed in this paper. The young people are their hope for their free and inde-pendent development,and the milkman is a typical role and his experiences and transformation reflect the com-mon dream,both for the black and the author.
