英语名词化与大学英语写作

摘要

Nominalization is one of the most remarkable features of formal English style. English is a nominalizing language, different schools of linguistics have studied nominalization from their own per- spectives. The present paper firstly discusses definitions, different approaches to nominalization from home and abroad, nominalization and registers. To explore the question that the distribution and fre quency and of English nominalization in the compositions of Chinese non--English major learners and factors contribute to the phenomena for students in terms of nominalization production, the present paper chooses two corpuses of non--English majors＇ final exam composi- tions from students of different levels in Xiamen University, identifying English nominalization as lexical nominalization and clausal nominalization, applying UltraEdit--32 and Excel 2003 to make descriptive statistic of some general features of nominalization performance in the corpora.%名词化的使用是英语书面语的一大特征。所谓名词化,就是将动词或形容词变成名词的过程或结果。由于英语名词化是一个既涉及形态变化又涉及句法的复杂过程,且在书面语和正式文体中普遍存在,许多语言学家从不同的角度对名词化进行探讨,得出不同的观点。本文讨论了名词化的定义、国内外对名词化的不同研究方法、名词化与语域关系等,利用搜索工具UltraEdit-32以及Excel 2003对学习者作文语料库进行量化分析及对比分析,探讨了非英语专业大学生英语写作中名词化的使用分布情况及频率、特点以及造成学生使用的名词化现象的原因。
