The scientific nature of translation is nothing other than its features approachable from lin- guistics. The debate between the scientific and artistic natures, dating back as early as two millenia ago, has been carried on into the present day of the 21st century. It can be safely argued that the de- bate, which to some extent held back the disciplinary developments, has enabled the academia to see into the nature of translating. Any translation, whatever genre it concerns, will no do without the perfect combination of both science and art. No translation is limited to one of them while the other is thoroughly excluded. As for literary texts, though a distinctive stress is laid on their aesthetic dimen- sion, there is no denying that the translation of them will not proceed without the guidance of a scien- tic approach, which is essentially actualized through a linguistic analysis.%翻译的科学性即翻译的语言学特征。翻译的科学性和艺术性之争由来已久（尽管以不同形式出现），至今仍未平息。虽然科学派和艺术派互相排斥不利于翻译理论的发展，但从某种意义来说，这场争论也使学界对翻译活动的性质有了更进一步的认识。翻译实践证明，任何文体的翻译都是科学性和艺术性的统一，只存在科学性而没有艺术性的翻译是不存在的，反之亦然。文学文本的翻译虽然更注重艺术层面的再现，但绝不能因此就排除文学翻译中存在的以语言分析为特征的科学性。
