With the aid of corpus-based analytic tools ,Hawkes′,Yang′s and Joly′s versions of Chapter Three in Hongloumeng as the corpora ,we investigate the theme -rheme structures of the three trans-lations and explore their character depictions .It′s found that in character depiction Joly′s version pro-vides the longest and sometimes an unavoidably wordy text in an attempt at a one-to-one correspon-dence to source text ,while Hawkes′and Yang′s choose to adjust in some places .Some of the adjust-ments do not change the character depiction in source text but a proper alternation in expression while others more or less influence the reproduction of character depiction .%以《红楼梦》及其三个英译本(霍译、杨译、乔译)的第三回为实际语料,调查其中的主述位结构,并用语料库检索方法探析四个文本的人物刻画,通过研究发现:乔译在刻画人物时力图将原文中的每个单词都翻译出来,因而最忠实于原文,但不够精炼、流畅;霍译和杨译则根据目标语做了一些调整,有些改动既适应了目标语表达习惯,也无损于原文的人物刻画,而某些改动则多少影响了人物形象的生动再现。
