叙事理论视角下《孔子传》的翻译及其叙事建构

摘要

The Westerners know about Confucius through The Analects,and they regarded him a sage who always re-leased maxims and mottos. This is not only an unjustified view about Confucius,but also inadequate to understand his ideas. The Narrative theory put forward by Mona Baker holds that translators and interpreters do resort to various strategies to strengthen or undermine particular aspects of the narratives they mediate. Lin Yutang portrayed a real Confucius through many construction strategies in the translation of “The Life of Confucius”,which was helpful for disseminating Confucianism and even traditional Chinese culture.%西方人对孔子的印象主要由《论语》一书得来，通常以为孔子是满口格言警句的智者。这种看法不仅对孔子的认识有失偏颇，而且不足以全面反映孔子伟大的思想。莫纳·贝克的叙事理论认为在翻译过程中，译者参与了对社会现实的建构。林语堂通过一系列叙事建构策略英译《孔子传》，不但向西方读者传达了一个更为真实的孔子，而且有助于传播儒家学说乃至中国传统文化。
