This research was conducted through the design of non-equivalent control groups. The empirical data are collected from two groups of pupils of one local primary school for ten weeks. The traditional letter teaching method is adopted in the control group, while phonics is mainly used in the experimental group. In order to evaluate the feasibility of phonics, some pre-tests and post-tests were taken by both groups to see whether the pupils' phonetics was improved. The results showed that the pupils of the experimental group made obvious progress in the post-tests, which indicates that it is feasible to teach pupils English phonetics without teaching letters.%文章采用非等值控制组设计,实验数据来自一所地方学校的两组小学生,实验时间为10周。对照组以教字母为主的传统教学法授课,实验组以实施自然拼读教学的教学法授课。两组各施予语音技能的前测与后测以评估语音技能是否有提高,目的是观察以发展自然拼读教学为主的教学法的可行性,结果表明实验组在后测中有明显进步,显示不用字母教授语音觉识技能是可行的。
