Weber uses ethics as the logical starting point for issue of modernity and ethical rationalization is a key element in his rationalization theory. Weber believes that rationalization lies in the core of western cap-italist lifestyles, a result of the general validity for ethical rationalization which shapes the westerners'consist-ent attitude towards life and promotes the overall rationalization in the western society. With the deepening of modernization, the modern lifestyles influenced by instrumental rationality are becoming more and more irra-tional. The general validity for ethical rationalization has been oppugned.
