返本开新:从20世纪中西学术交流看传播学本土化

     

摘要

“The Localization of Communication”is an important and heated topic.The paper analyzes it from the following two aspects:how to position“the localization of communication”in the history of Chinese thought and Chinese Academic Development,and how to look at “the localization of communication”in the context of Chinese and Western exchange.On the one hand,in the early 1 920s,there was an upsurge of transformation of Western Sciences,which mainly consisted in the foundation of the School of Chinese Classical Studies of Qinghua University and the Institute of History and Language in Academia Sinica,the rise of New-Confucianism,the effort on creating a new road by returning to the origin,and the trend of social sciences with Chinese features.The concepts of“transformation of Western Sciences”and “to create a new road by returning to the origin”can be traced back to the “New Confucianism Movement”early in Tang,Song and Ming Dynasties.On the other hand,the localization of communication,in fact,is part of the sinicization of modern Chinese social sciences,and is closely related to the implicated premise of western centralism,of which the research autonomy of Chinese scholars is very prominent. Chinese communication should shoulder the burden of the origin of traditional thoughts and modern experience and create a new road of modern communication theory.%“传播学本土化”是一个重要而又热门的话题。文章试图跳出传播学一隅加以探讨:如何在中国思想史和学术史的脉络中定位“传播学本土化”?如何在中西交流语境中看待“传播学本土化”?一方面,早在20世纪二三十年代,中国学术就有一个“转化西学”的热潮,体现为清华国学院和中研院史语所的建立、现代新儒家的兴起和“返本开新”的努力,以及社会科学“中国化”思潮。“转化西学”和“返本开新”的观念最早可追溯至唐代以来直至宋明的“新儒学”运动。另一方面,传播学的“本土化”问题,实际上是整个中国现代社会科学的“中国化”问题的一部分,与“西方中心主义”的隐含前提密切相关,后者也使华人学者的研究“自主性”问题变得异常突出。华人本土传播学研究应该努力将“返本”与“开新”结合起来,即返传统思想和现实经验之“本”,开现代传播理论之“新”,在时间经线上立足本土、古今联通,在空间纬度上扎根本土、中外沟联。
