The success of The White Dog and Rope Swing, regarded by many scholars as “a rare work in the history of contemporary literature”, is largely attributed to its unique narrative art. It overturns the traditional narrative framework which gives priority to the plot and intentionally leaves behind many blanks in the construction of setting, the portrayal of characters and the plot arrangement, providing the readers with endless reading experience through the transmission of infinite significance.%《白狗秋千架》被学者称为“当代文学史上不可多得的作品”，很大程度上归功于其独特的叙述艺术，它颠覆了传统以情节为主的模式框架，在环境的营造、人物的刻画以及故事情节的编排上，有意留下众多空白，以无声传递无限的意蕴，带给读者言有尽、意无穷的阅读体验。
