英语政治演讲语篇中情态的介入研究——以奥巴马最后一次联大演讲为例

摘要

Starting from the Modality system, one realization of the Interpersonal function of Systemic Functional Linguistics, combined with the Engagement sub-system of the Appraisal Theory, this article explores Modality as Engagement resources in political speech from the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis. Through investigation of the types of Modality, the values of Modality and the orientation of Modality in Obama's final address to the United Nations General Assembly, this study reveals that the speaker more frequently employs probability and inclination, high values and low values, explicit subjective and implicit subjective, reflecting that Obama is willing to negotiate with the present audience, to construct dialogical space and establish harmonious solidarity with them, then covertly imposing his political agenda upon UN's other member countries and finally realizing his address purpose-persuading the audience to accept his political stances.%文章从系统功能语言学中表达人际意义的情态系统出发,结合评价理论的介入子系统,从批评话语分析视角研究政治演讲语篇中情态所具有的介入意义.通过对奥巴马最后一次联大演讲中情态类型、情态量值和情态取向三方面的考察,发现此次演讲中奥巴马多采用概率和意愿、高量值和低量值、显性主观和隐性主观,体现了奥巴马愿意与听众进行协商,构建对话空间,建立和谐、一致的同盟关系,从而隐含地把自己的政治意图强加于他国,最终达到说服听众接纳其政治主张的目的.
