中华文明的发展从古至今与翻译保持着紧密的联系。在中国的历史上出现过五大翻译高潮：唐朝的佛经翻译；清朝的科学翻译；1919年以前的西学翻译；五四以后的社会科学和文学翻译；新中国成立以后的教科书、工具书、社会科学和自然科学的翻译。清末民初的西学翻译是中国翻译高潮走向高峰的重点时期，而其中的科学翻译活动，以其影响之大成果之多为中国翻译史提供了许许多多的亮眼之处，对于现代科技翻译来讲仍具有借鉴价值和学习的意义。%There is a close connection between translation and the development of Chinese Civilization. Altogether, there are five translation climaxes in the history of China:Translation of Buddhist scripture of Tang Dynasty, Scientific Translation in Qing Dynasty, Western Translation before 1919, Scientiifc and Literal Translation after the May 4th Movement, and the Social and Natural Scientiifc Translation. Translation activities in the Late Qing Dynasty and the Early Republican Period are crucial period toward a translation climax, in which many scientiifc activities with their inlfuential results providing many enlightening spots for China and it still has its reference and learning value on modern scientiifc translation.
