As the cultural embodiment of shen’s and Zhang Lvxiang’s farming-reading lives,Supplement to the Book on Agriculture typically reflected the economic culture structure and the technological culture achievements of Jiangnan agriculture from the end of the Ming dynasty to the beginning of the Qing dynasty.On these bases,the authors of this book formed a comparatively profound and systematic idea of farming-reading culture.They stressed to work hard at agriculture,to consume moderately and to make the family hand down by means of farming-reading.They advocated to break the prejudices and to seek the combination of farming with reading.They believed that the success key of farming-reading lay in diligence.All these can be used for some significant reference in the local social civilization of modern China.
