Comparing pre-service teachers' knowledge and perceptions of China and the United States.

This article examines four questions: What do pre-service teachers in China and the United States know about each other's countries? What questions do pre-service teachers in China and the United States have about each other's countries? Between China and the United States, what persisting stereotypes exist, if any, between pre-service teachers in China and the United States know about each other's countries? What kinds of intercultural awareness do pre-service teachers in China and the United States have? There are 91 Chinese participants and 96 from the United States attended this survey. The study found that the both participant groups have misconception and stereotypes of each other's country. The participants from both countries have overestimated or underestimated each other's cultural awareness too. All of these may impact their future teaching in their career period.;Keywords: China, the United States, cross-cultural awareness, pre-service teachers, stereotypes about China, stereotypes about the United States.
