The study investigated Turkish EFL teachers' perceptions of their current English language skills and their perceptions of pre-service education. The population of the study included 311 Turkish EFL teachers who were employed in public secondary schools in Ankara. The subjects were selected through systematic sampling. Both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were used. The data for the study were collected through questionnaires, structured interviews, and document analysis.;In order to analyze the data from the questionnaire, descriptive statistics procedures and canonical correlation were used. To analyze the data collected through the interviews with 25 teachers, cross-case analysis technique was used. Listening and writing skills received the lowest ratings from the Turkish EFL teachers. The findings of the interviews indicated that "speaking fluently" was the major weakness among teachers. However, grammar knowledge and positive attitudes were found to be perceived strengths of the participating teachers. The results of the document analysis showed that Turkish ELT departments emphasize language-specific courses. The study also identified the recommendations of Turkish teachers for the improvement of pre-service ELT teacher education programs in Turkiye. Based on the findings of the study, a five-year teacher education program model was proposed.
