This Doctoral Thesis aims to focus on the cohesive role of specialised terms in business and finance discourse and its implications for translation English-Spanish. In order to achieve this goal and to begin with, the concepts of cohesion and coherence are developed. Secondly, the category of lexical cohesion is chosen as a tool for the linguistic analysis of the texts representing the business and finance discourse. Thirdly, a study of the unit for analysis, the specialised term, is carried out. Fourthly, both the steps taken for the compilation of the corpus of the texts and the procedure of linguistic analysis are explained. Fifthly, the linguistic analysis of the texts by means of the category of lexical cohesion is carried out from two different points of view: from the point of view of textual integration, adopting Hoey's model (1991), and from the point of view of textual segmentation, adopting Berber Sardinha's model, which is a later development of Hoey's model. Lastly, an exposition of the results of the investigation is presented. The above-mentioned steps are supplemented by the data obtained in the step of analysis.
