论翻译目的对译者选择的影响

摘要

众所周知，翻译的过程是一个连续的选择过程，包括从对所译文本类型及翻译策略的确定，到文字转换过程中具体的遣词造句等一系列的抉择。而影响译者做出各种选择的正是属于不同层次的翻译目的。 关于翻译目的及其层次性，有不同的学者进行了研究，并提出了各自的层次理论，但仍未能达成共识。本文结合德国哲学家、社会学家及思想家哈贝马斯的交际行为理论，贝塔朗菲的一般系统论，以及维纳的控制理论，首先界定了翻译目的，并且重新对它进行了层次分类。在此基础上，本文研究了中国历史上第三次翻译高潮时期的翻译活动，试图证明影响、制约译者一系列选择的直接因素正是属于不同层次的翻译目的。 翻译目的大致可分为宏观、中间及微观三个层次。它们对翻译活动的影响主要体现在对译者各个阶段的选择上。宏观目的主要制约译者对所译文本类型的确定；中问层次的目的，也就是直接目的决定译者某次翻译活动的具体选目，并很大程度上决定了他将采用的翻译策略；翻译的微观目的作用于文字转换过程中译者对具体问题的处理、解决，多是比较具体而不确定的。但微观目的是为了保证更高层次目的的实现。因而，这三个不同层次的目的构成一个有序的层次性。它们彼此不同而又相关，共同致力于最高层次目的的实现。 当然，翻译目的的设立及实现与否还要受到许多因素的影响。翻译目的尤其是宏观目的的确定总是受到翻译活动所处时代的社会背景，诸如当时的意识形态，社会需求，意向读者的期待视野等等的制约。至于翻译目的实现与否一定程度上决定于译者的翻译能力，但还要看相关人物如翻译策动者对社会形势是否有着正确的把握，对己及对他者文化是否有着的深入了解，并在此基础上制定出相应的、恰当的翻译目的。总之，各个层次的翻译目的形成一个有序的阶梯，它们共同影响、制约着某个时代的翻译活动。
