从张爱玲《金锁记》翻译的失败看异化翻译成功的条件——多元系统视角

摘要

本文从多元系统理论角度出发，以张爱玲异化翻译《金锁记》的失败为例，对异化翻译策略如何有效运用于对外文学翻译进行了分析和阐述。多元系统理论由以色列著名学者伊万·佐哈尔于20世纪70年代初期提出。该理论认为，翻译应该置于一个包括文化地位、意识形态、读者期待、经济地位等多个子系统在内的复杂系统之中。根据这一理论，当翻译文学处于文学系统中心地位时，译者多倾向于采用异化策略;当本土文学处于中心地位时，译者多倾向于使用归化策略。
　　张爱玲是享有极高声望的中国女作家，而且是当时为数不多的能够熟练使用并精通英汉双语的女作家。《金锁记》是张爱玲的代表作之一，并且深受张爱玲本人喜爱。张竭尽全力先后四次改写，采用异化为主的翻译策略，尽量保留中国文化特色，希望以此吸引美国读者，作为进入美国市场的敲门砖，但是译本却反响不佳。
　　本文以张爱玲自译的最后一个译本(The Golden Cangue)为例，在多元系统理论的指导下，分析了其在欧美市场惨遭冷淡的原因。论文共包括三章。第一章从文化、文本主题、语言三个层面对《金锁记》中的异化策略进行分析。第二章引入佐哈尔的多元系统理论，分析《金锁记》译本异化策略失败的原因。第三章由《金锁记》译本的失败分析得出，可从提高文化地位、增强综合国力和借助文化多样性满足读者期待三个方面促成异化翻译的成功，这对于中国文化走向世界有较大的推动作用。
