从关联理论看中国电影英文字幕中的文化缺省及其翻译——以电影《赤壁》英文字幕为个案研究

摘要

电影在本质上是文化产品，往往具有典型的社会文化特征，表现在含有人名、地名、食物名称等；同时也表现在内嵌的格言、隐喻、习语的语篇中，这些文化负载词并不一定为另一个社会文化群体所熟悉或理解，因此很可能会对影片的跨文化传播产生影响和制约。作为跨文化交流的渠道和方式，字幕翻译的重要性日益凸显。好的的字幕未必可以拯救一部电影，糟糕的字幕却能毁掉一部精彩的电影。然而对于跨文化的字幕翻译而言，由于文化差异的存在，原文中的文化缺省往往变得十分棘手，文化缺省的内容会影响或制约异域观众对影片的接收与感受，使一部好的影片变得难以理解，不知所云。
　　本文引入了关联理论，视字幕翻译为双重明示-推理交际的动态过程，这一过程涉及电影制作方、译者、目的语观众。在翻译过程中，译者既要对原文的认知环境进行分析，对电影中的文化缺省做出正确的理解和推理；又要正确判断目的语受者的认知环境，在各种可能的版本中选出与原文最佳关联的一个，在目的语中让目的语受者也能够感受到并建立起这种关联，并由此获得对原文的正确理解。
　　本文试图在关联翻译理论的框架下，着重探讨电影字幕翻译中文化缺省现象，以中国电影《赤壁》中存在的文化缺省现象为论文基点，以期找到字幕翻译中文化缺省的正确翻译方法。并介绍了直译、解释法、替代法、移植法、概括法五种翻译方法及其优缺点。同时结合华语大片《赤壁》中的文化缺省翻译实例分析，对这五种翻译方法的适应性进行了分析。
