中美英语新闻中模糊限制语对比分析

摘要

本文是一项基于语料库的对中美英语新闻语篇中模糊限制语的对比研究。本研究在两个自建语料库的基础上进行，研究目的主要是为了发现中美英语新闻语篇在模糊限制语的使用方面有何异同。
　　本文以Prince et al对模糊限制语的分类为标准，采用定量分析与定性分析相结合的方法，对两个自建语料库中使用的模糊限制语进行了对比分析。本研究中，模糊限制语可分为变动型模糊限制语和缓和型模糊限制语;前者可进一步分为程度变动型和范围变动型，后者可进一步分为直接缓和型和间接缓和型。两个语料库随机选取自中国日报和纽约时报，并分别命名为CN和AN。本研究共设计了三个研究问题:1）两个语料库中模糊限制语的使用各有何特点？有何异同之处？2)如何从顺应理论的视角分析英语新闻中模糊限制语的使用现象？3）英语新闻中模糊限制语有何独特的语用功能？要解决以上这些问题需要用到的研究工具主要是PowerGrep和AntConc。
　　在本研究中，为了确保数据收集的可靠性，PowerGrep被用来找出两个语料库中每一类模糊限制语的频数。由于某些提取出来的单词和短语在某些情况下并不作为模糊限制语使用，在数据识别的过程中需要用到AntConc进行人工筛选。在对索引行的人工筛选之后，那些不作为模糊限制语使用的索引行被排除在外，从而确保数据的可靠性和有效性。
　　经过对数据的定量和定性分析之后，发现两个语料库中都普遍存在模糊限制语，并且两个语料库中模糊限制语所占的总体比例大致相同。但是经过对两个语料库中模糊限制语标准化频数的比较，发现它们在每一类模糊限制语的使用上存在明显不同。在两大类模糊限制语的使用方面，两个语料库中的缓和型模糊限制语都多于变动型模糊限制语。在四个小类的使用方面，CN中用了更多的范围变动型模糊限制语而AN中使用最多的是间接缓和型模糊限制语。CN中直接缓和型模糊限制语和间接缓和型模糊限制语的使用没有明显区别，而AN中很少用到直接缓和型模糊限制语。
　　在总结了两个语料库中模糊限制语的使用特点之后，作者尝试通过分析索引行来解释英语新闻中模糊限制语的使用现象和两个语料库的异同。除了这些直接的数据分析结果之外，本文还对相关方面的学习有所启示。英语新闻写作专业的学生应该增强模糊限制语的使用意识，从而提高合理使用模糊限制语的能力。
