从社会心理语言学视角解析《喜福会》中的语码转换与民族身份建构

摘要

《喜福会》作为华裔美国文学最成功的小说之一，引起了广大读者的强烈共鸣和批评界的广泛关注。目前关于《喜福会》的研究主要是集中在分析其母女关系主题，研究作品中体现的东西文化冲突和文化身份界定问题方面。本文试图从社会心理语言学的角度探讨小说《喜福会》中的语码转换与民族身份建构的关系，以期为该问题的研究提供一个新的视角。
　　 由于语言是民族身份的标志之一，而民族身份又具有动态性和可协商性，在某些情况下，语码转换能够帮助人们建构民族身份。人们通过语码转换建构民族身份既受到社会环境和文化等因素的影响，也受自身社会心理因素的影响。因此，本文试图采用社会心理语言学的相关理论来探索建构民族身份的语码转换现象，并对人们选择某种特定语码或转换语码来表明或建构民族身份的原因进行研究。
　　 本研究以社会心理语言学中的三个重要理论——言语调节理论、语言态度理论和动机理论为基础构建了理论框架，并对小说《喜福会》中与民族身份建构有关的语码转换现象进行分析，以揭示影响说话人语码转换行为的社会心理因素。研究表明，说话人通过语码转换建构民族身份，往往是受以下三个社会心理因素的影响:言语调节，语言态度以及心理动机。其中言语调节主要通过语言趋同或趋异来实现;语言态度主要指理智方面的语言态度和情感方面的语言态度;心理动机则主要体现在四个方面:表明对民族语言的忠诚;表达民族情感;表示亲近友好，缩小会话双方的心理距离;适应社会规约。在这些社会心理因素的综合影响与作用下，人们最终选择特定语码，通过语言符号的指示性建构自身的民族身份。
