A Unified Theory of Ionization and Discharge Physics Based on EHD/EMHD as an Extension of Alfv (n)(s) MHD: A Goal of Von Engel (s)Desire towards Simplification and Unification of Ionization and Discharge Physics
A unified theory of ionization and discharge physics is presented, based on electrohydrodynamics (EHD) or electromagnetohydrodynamics (EMHD) developed as an extension of Alfv (n)(s) MHD (magnetohydrodynamics), taking into account space charge and displacement currents and introducing the concepts of new electric reconnection and critical ionization velocities that are an extension of Alfv (n)(s) critical velocity in almost collisionless gases to collisicnal gases. The theory offers simplification and unification of ionization and discharge physics that has been thought to involve complicated ionization and recombination processes, and at the same time may provide a goal of Von Engel (s) long-cherished desire. In particular, a variety of novel laboratory discharge observations by a (u)niversal electric-cusp type plasma reactor offers laboratory evidence of the theory with laboratory simulation of space electricity phenomena such as tornadic thunderstorms.
