In this paper, the anew RC column of the circular section of all section of concrete confinedby thin steel spiral tube is developed, and the experimental results are reported.The feature of this column is the structure of not using hoops and forms but expecting boththe confined effect and shearing resistance effect of the thin steel spiral tube.14 specimens of anew proposed column are experimented which experimental factors areaxial load, thickness of steel tube and proportion of column, and the following knowledge wasacquired by the experimental result.It was proved that the column without hoops also has excellent earthquake performance withhigh deformability by selecting the thickness of the suitable steel tube.Moreover, whether shearing failure or flexural failure will occurred can be distinguished bythe relations of the slender ratio of the column, axial load ratio, and the thickness of a steel tube.These results have suggested the possibility of design of RC column which excellent seismicperformance is attained.Since this column is cheap and the construction is easy, proposed long circular columns havealready several actually executed examples in few stories buildings.
