CRCPD E-24 Guidance Document for License Termination of Facilities Where Radioactive Material Was Used

The Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors E-24 Committee on Decontamination and Decommissioning has issued guidance to assist licensees who used sealed sources or limited amounts of loose materials with the license termination process. It is a companion document to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's three-volumernConsolidated Decommissioning Guidance series (NUREG-1757) and the Multi-Agency Radiological Site SurveyrnInvestigation Manual (MARSSIM). Many facilities that use sealed sources or limited amounts of unsealed materials (e.g.,rnR&D labs) are not familiar with decommissioning and license termination activities and requirements. The NUREG seriesrnand MARSSIM can be daunting for these licensees. The E-24 Document is limited to facilities with limited contamination ofrnbuilding surfaces and surface soils that can use screening criteria to meet free release limits. It streamlines the process andrnguides the licensee through the requirements in a graded approach that mirrors the NUREG series. It is not applicable tornsites that have subsurface contamination, surface or groundwater contamination, or sites that would require site-specificrndose assessments and detailed decommissioning plans.
