PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extension method of a radioactive matter storage facility in which a storage building can be extended, and in which carry-in and carry-out of storage containers storing radioactive matter can be easily performed in each existing and extended storage building.SOLUTION: A radioactive matter storage facility 1A has four sides of which three sides are surrounded by mountains and one side only is built on a long and narrow open site. The radioactive matter storage facility 1A includes storage buildings 2 and 20. The storage building 2 is built at the innermost place of the long and narrow site. The storage building 20 is an extended storage building which is extended by being adjacent to the storage building 2 on an open site side in a longitudinal direction of the storage building 2. The storage buildings 2 and 20 include: storage areas 3 and 3A and radioactive matter receiving areas 9 and 9A. After completing the radioactive matter storage facility 1A, a storage container 17 is carried into a carry-in/out area 10A of the storage building 20 and stored at a container storage area 4 inside a storage building 20A and at a carry-in/out area 10 inside the storage building 2.
