New Development in Sugar Cooling

Bulkflow Technologies Inc. is a Calgary, Canada based engineering company with a subsidiary in Winterswijk The Netherlands. The company designs heat exchangers for the indirect cooling of free flowing bulk solids. The products are marketed under the name Bulkflow Heat Exchanger. Bulkflow has found a niche in replacing traditional rotary drum and fluid bed coolers who have been the standards for cooling sugar for many years. Bulkflow is recognized as one of the most significant technological developments of the last few years because of its innovative, yet very simple technology that offers many technical advantages at lower capital and operating costs. Design features of this technology for cooling sugar include: 1. No sugar degradation 2. An existing sugar drier cooler can be turned in a drier by installing a Bulkflow Cooler 3. Better storage properties 4. No air emissions 5. No fans, few moving parts - low energy consumption 6. Compact design 7. Lower installed capital cost 8. Extremely easy to install. Two case studies are presented: 1. Danisco Sugar, Kopingebro, Sweden 2. Nordzucker, Schladen, Germany.
