Abstract: We have designed and developed a series of electrical connectors for the electron gun of airborne cathode ray tube (CRT) displays. These connectors, when permanently attached to the tube, can be connected and disconnected repeatedly to provide access to the tube and its interconnecting cable harness. This new interconnection method, which replaces the conventional method of discrete soldering of wires to the terminals, and subsequent silicone potting, fits most JEDEC contact patterns. Environmental tests, including altitude (50,000 feet simulated), humidity, thermal shock, vibration, and mechanical shock have been conducted on one series of CRTs with an applied focus voltage of 8 KVDC. We have developed enhancements for the connector, including integral spark gaps for transient protection between the focus and other elements in the tube. Additional electronic components, such as trimming resistors, have also been added to the connector; thus providing a `complete-package-approach' to CRT interconnections. !9
