The need to sample fluids in process has been around for years. The primary purpose forrnprocess sampling is to keep the process in control by evaluating reaction completeness atrnvarious points throughout the process. The main task has been to ensure the sample isrnrepresentative and current, not a frivolous challenge in itself.rnIn recent years the petrochemical, refinery, and process industries have been barragedrnwith a blizzard of regulations aimed at protecting the environment and the operators ofrnsuch sites. These regulations, although well intentioned and necessary, have caused arngreat deal of uncertainty and confusion in the methods of sampling. Balancing the need tornprotect the operator first and then the environment from hazardous chemicals withrnefficient operation of a process facility is of high importance.rnThis paper will explore current methods of process sampling that can provide a true andrnrepresentative sample while maintaining operator and environmental safety.
