CURRENT STATE LICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR PRIVATE FIRE INVESTIGATORS IN THE UNITED STATES: 2012

In today’s world of professional private fire investigation, many requirements have been placed on thernindustry for training, education, and licensing. Each state may require private fire investigators and/or therncompanies they work for to be licensed as a private investigator or private detective in order to work in the state.rnMany states have similar laws. Some states have unique laws. Finally, some states have no laws regulating thernprivate investigation industry at all. Each state with a law regulating private investigations has its own process forrnapplying, maintaining, and renewing licenses. Some states may have reciprocal agreements with other states andrnsome states have exemptions for the fire investigator to have a state license. This paper will discuss what privaterninvestigator licensing is, and will provide an overview of the laws, rules, and processes for each of the 50 states.
