Diffusing-wave spectroscopy of dense colloids and gels

Abstract: We describe the use of diffuse light in homogeneous media to determine the dynamic properties of small scattering particles. A novel interferometric technique is used to measure average displacements of freely diffusing particles over times of just 20 nsec. Another experiment on an industrially significant dispersion provides insight into the process of gel formation. !9
