Development and implementation of a water quality performance assessment and management system for local government in South Africa

The DWAF/IMESA roll-out of the electronic water quality data capture, information dissemination, and management tool (eWQMS) to municipalities in South Africa has made very good progress since initiation in April 2006. The proactive and supportive involvement by local, provincial and national government to ensure that municipal Water Quality Management (WQM) is adequately resourced and capacitated, can be expected to lead to a considerable improvement in WQM by municipalities across South Africa in the near future.
