Mapping the IT Evaluation Domain

Evaluation suffers from both conceptual and political weakness. It could be much more effective if oriented to theory applicable across projects, because the power of any discourse must be established through a virtuous credibility cycle, which is impossible while paradigm clashes between different academic tribes remain inadequately articulated and unresolved. We report a pilot study using a cognitive mapping approach together with cluster analysis of a sample of IT Evaluation literature. The ultimate aim is to use this map of the field as a tool to assist in shaping project evaluation strategies.
