Hyalohyphomycosis: case report and clinical analysis of 19 cases

A 48-year old woman from Hebei Wuji, complained a plaque on her face which had spread over the face for 30 years. Anti-tuberculosis therapy was ineffective she was bought our department in May 1973. Mycotic examination was positive. In tissue culture Cephalosporium sp.was found, but no hyphae were found in tissue section with HE staining. The formalin-fixed paraffin block was kept for 24 years and its histologic section was stained with PAS and GMS in 1997. Many mycelia were observed in dermis, an important evidence for the diagnosis of hyalohyphomycosis.
